Bill Phelps was born in St. Paul Minnesota in 1965. Self taught he attributes his inspirations to the artists and scientists of the past and present whose work echoes the true power and beauty of simplicity. His work has been exhibited in New York and London and is the recipient of the 2001 Grand Prize of portraits for the World Press.
Working with and 8 x 10 wooden field camera - his process his calm and deliberate, with a “clarity of purpose” behind his compositions. Though he welcomes mistakes and the innate “imperfections” of the instant Polaroid, always in touch with an element of the “poetic’.
Calling Brooklyn home, he is also the co designer, builder and owner of Café Moto in Williamsburg.
He has worked for many advertising clients in the U.S. and abroad and has been published in Italian Vogue, French Marie Claire, the New York Times Magazine and Interview to name a few. www.billphelphs.com
