Movie Mondays

After watching this movie, it occurred to me, that the title, On Any Sunday, was not in reference to when you could find these men out on the tracks or in the desert, but something much more...
The title, for me, referenced religion. Not God, or the Lord, Holy Trinity or whatever you may believe, but religion as something to base your life on, guide you, and make you a better person. In Christian belief, Sunday, is the Lord's day. One may go to church, kneel down fold their hands and pray to a spirit for wisdom, protection or guidance. Although a good Christian is to do this everyday, Sunday is especially set aside to devote to these activities of worship.

For men who wake up at the crack of dawn, drive hundreds of miles to the middle of a desert no ordinary man would dream of spending a day in, religion has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit. For men who ride their bikes to work and wrench on them at night, religion has nothing to do with communion. Oil is his holy water. Throttle is his bible which his hand so lovingly grasps. His three piece suit is made not of cotton but leather. And his Preacher, is the wide open terrain spread out in front of him, showing him the pathway to Heaven. Not to say these men are Godless heathens raising hell and cursing Heaven. No, quite the opposite. For these men truly know what God is.

For people like the men in the film, God is in the dirt tires run tracks in. God is in the the pavement rubber gets laid on. God is in the paper that gets drawn on, the music that flows from speakers and the clouds shapes are made from. For people like this, God is everywhere. It makes no difference the shape God may take or the form in which God is worshipped, and more importantly, makes no difference what name the day may carry. Because for people like this, the Lord's day is everyday. Sunday is yesterday, it's tomorrow and again the day after that.

So what day can you find us praying? What day can you find us devoting love and time to the thing that brings us peace, guidance, and complete salvation? Everyday. On Any Sunday.

Whether your bible has pages, wheels, paint brushes or keyboards, make sure you pray, because today... is Sunday.
