Stephen Pate & Big Sid Biberman starting on the 'Black Falcon' Vincent engine

For an engine this special, it only makes sense that we assured that a very special team work on it. We were honored to hear from Stephen Pate of Restoration Werks, and the Legendary 'Big Sid' Biberman, that they would like jump on board and help us to make the Black Falcon engine into something great. Here they are having freshly unpacked the engine we crated and sent to them, seen here with Matthew Biberman (right) and Logan Robison, shooting a documentary for PBS... continue reading

We spent the past few days starting to break in the engine of the Kestrel in preparation for taking it out to the desert, which is now going to happen with the Vincent when it's finished in September.  Our friends, the uber talented Travis Shinn and O.T.M.F.C (one tight mother fu*king crew - minus Sash, who was in Vegas) came along to shoot video, which is great, becuase if I'd done it, it would have looked like crap...

The Quail Motorcycle Gathering
Posted on May.11 10 by Falcon in the category Motorcycles

quail_motorcycle_gathering_2010
Last Saturday, May 8th, was idyllic in a special way that only Carmel, CA can be. The large circular green at Quail was filled with rare and legendary machines, that included among many, a bright orange 1913 Flying Merkel 500cc Board Track Racer, a 1967 Münch Mammoth (the world's first super bike), the ex-Steve McQueen 1914 Indian Model F Boardtrack Racer, and Jay Leno's wild blue MTT Jet bike, (which was shut down by grounds keepers for setting the lawn on fire). The vibe was refreshing and relaxed, and it was a relaxed and beautiful day from moment one. The variance and personality of the different motorcycles, the set up, the care that Gordon, Courtney, Laurie and their team had set it up with, the varied vendors, which ranged from incredible aluminum tanks, Ducattis, our friends Riders For Health , the official charity, and Adam Wright, who had his photobooks there (including the new one, which is so good) - all made for an eclectic mix of all things motorcycle related, and a great mood.

Especially meaningful to us, and spear-headed by Dean Micetich from DicE Magazine, the freshly hatched custom section had transformed the field of metal wonders, into a field of friends and peers, filled with imaginative creations that reflected their technicolor metal, into the honey-fluorescent, Northern Californian light...

Making the Kestrel
Posted on May.03 10 by Falcon in the category Motorcycles

1_kestrel_falcon_cut_engine
The Kestrel started as the unit-engine of a 1970 Triumph Bonneville, with damage to it's gearbox. Ian's solution was to cut the transmission off, redesign the engine, then make the frame from scratch to fit the new engine set up. With the exception of a few critical pieces such as the crankcases, a BSA transmission, and 10 inches of the original Triumph headstock, everything else – including the frame, girder front forks, gas and oil tanks, exhausts, handlebars, levers, even the cylinders - was fabricated in-house. Every design element, from handle bars to foot controls is sketched out, hand drawn by Ian, and then machined to detail in-house by Ian , Scott and Troy...
